This exhibition was created to confront the systemic violence faced by Palestinian healthcare workers and to expose how Israel’s military occupation and propaganda campaigns erase not only lives but also the truth. Rooted in extensive research by Visualizing Palestine, this exhibition is inspired by their meticulous documentation of the enforced disappearances, torture, and killings of doctors in Gaza. At the center of this story is Dr. Rantisi—a beloved pediatrician whose murder in Israeli detention became both a symbol and a reality of Gaza’s collapsing healthcare system.
Through interactive storytelling and immersive environments, Disappearing Doctors unpacks how doctors, nurses, and hospital staff in Gaza are systematically targeted. The exhibition does not only bear witness to individual tragedies, but illuminates the deliberate strategy of dismantling a region’s healthcare system as a weapon of war.
In the wake of siege, bombardment, and media censorship, the world has largely forgotten the people who once held Gaza’s health system together—those who continued to heal even as hospitals fell and roads were blocked. These doctors did not disappear in silence; they were silenced. This exhibition is a refusal to let that silence endure.
The exhibition moves through a series of experiential installations that trace the final days of Dr. Rantisi—from his work under siege, to his detention, murder, and the court-ordered gag that concealed his death. It highlights a pattern of oppression and dehumanization, where medical neutrality is shattered and international law ignored. It also honors the resilience of families, colleagues, and patients who continue to fight for justice, memory, and truth.
Disappearing Doctors insists on global accountability and remembrance. It invites visitors to witness, reflect, and act—to understand how the targeting of healthcare is not collateral damage, but a tactic. And above all, it tells the world: Palestinian doctors are not statistics. They are individuals, communities, and stories we must remember and protect.
